Choisir un voyage axé culture et traditions en Éthiopie, c'est accepter de quitter les sentiers du tourisme classique pour entrer dans un pays qui a inventé son propre alphabet, son propre calendrier et son propre christianisme. Ici, l'année compte treize mois, l'horloge démarre au lever du soleil, et les fidèles prient en guèze, langue liturgique vieille de quinze siècles.

Le triangle historique du Nord concentre les héritages les plus saisissants. À Lalibela, onze églises ont été creusées dans la roche au XIIe siècle sous le règne du roi Gebre Mesqel, et restent aujourd'hui des lieux de pèlerinage actifs. À Gondar, les châteaux de Fasilides évoquent une « Camelot africaine » bâtie au XVIIe siècle, tandis qu'Axum garde la mémoire du royaume qui frappait monnaie quand Rome dominait encore la Méditerranée.

Plus au sud, la vallée de l'Omo raconte une autre Éthiopie. Nos guides francophones vous accompagnent à la rencontre des peuples Hamer, Mursi, Karo ou Dassanech, dont les rituels — saut de taureaux, scarifications, plateaux labiaux, marchés hebdomadaires — restent intimement liés au cycle des saisons et du fleuve.
