Administrative formalities and visa for Éthiopie

·

Preparing administrative documents before traveling is an important step whether for a stay in Éthiopie or in any other country in the world.

Preparing your administrative documents before departure is a crucial step whether you're planning a stay in Éthiopie or traveling to any other destination in the world.

The visa

A visa is mandatory for French nationals regardless of the length of stay. This also applies to Swiss and Belgian citizens.

What type of visa for Éthiopie?

Before entering Éthiopie, you will need a simple tourist visa (L). For your information, this visa allows you to stay in the country for 3 months from your date of entry into the territory.

Visa validity

The entry and exit visa for Éthiopie is valid for 3 months from the date of issuance. Once this period has expired, if you have not yet entered Éthiopie and have not used your visa, you will need to submit a new visa application.

When should you prepare your visa documents?

Whether traveling to Éthiopie or any other destination worldwide, visa applications should always be submitted in advance.

The embassy allows a processing period of 12 business days from the date of document submission. For remote applications, it is advisable to apply a little more than 2 weeks in advance.

What documents do you need to apply for an Éthiopie visa?

To obtain your visa for Éthiopie (valid only for French nationals residing in France), you will need the following documents:

  • 1 visa application form (available from the embassy)

  • 1 recent identity photo

  • 1 original passport valid for at least 6 months after your return date

  • 1 copy of the identity page of your passport

  • 1 detailed copy of your round-trip travel proof (e.g., flight confirmation, airplane ticket, etc.)

  • Copies of relevant passport pages

For minors or those traveling with children, additional documents may be required.

If you prefer not to visit the embassy in person, you can visit the website www.evisa.gov.et

The e-visa tourism with single entry is valid for 30 days and costs 52 USD. Payment is made directly online.

If your stay exceeds or equals 90 days, the single-entry e-visa costs 72 USD

Obtaining your visa upon arrival in Éthiopie

In Éthiopie, it is possible to request a visa upon arrival. This can be useful if you didn't have time to handle the administrative procedures before departure. However, be prepared for lengthy wait times on arrival.

Checking your passport validity

As with all international travel, verifying your passport validity is very important. Make sure your passport remains valid for 6 months after your return date from Éthiopie and that it contains at least three blank pages, including 2 facing pages.

Traveling with children

If you travel with your children, note that they will also need their own travel documents. Like you, they must have their own passport valid for 6 months after your return date from Éthiopie as well as their visa.

French legislation states that minors traveling with one or both parents are not required to carry an exit authorization document. However, since January 15, 2017, this document is now mandatory if the accompanying conditions are not met.
